About TONEDEAF!

TONEDEAF! is a coming-of-age webcomic for adults with a large focus on both humor and meaningful conversations. Under the initial premise of "start a band and become famous," TONEDEAF! focuses much more on introspection, finding a balance between work and passion, and how you don't have to be miserable just because you haven't achieved your dreams by your late 20s.

Follow Rhapsody and the rest of the TONEDEAF! crew as they navigate the ups and downs of pursuing a creative endeavor while working a day job. TONEDEAF! will quickly win you over with a fun cast, a lot of heart, and a deeper story of what it means to be a creative in the modern world.

Process

  • TONEDEAF! is created 100% by me (with occasional writing/paneling help from friends, so maybe more like 97%; see the special thanks below!) and with zero AI used at any point of the process.
  • I use Adobe Photoshop for all of my art, with occasional Illustrator work for character logos, and have a StickyBones posable artist's model for most pose reference.
  • My drawing tablet is a Huion Kamvas 22 Plus. I highly recommend it!! This is the exact one I purchased.
  • The primary font for TONEDEAF! is Vividly, generously created and made open for personal/commercial use by Tata. You can find it here.

TONEDEAF! Updates Every Friday:

Mainline TONEDEAF! updates with a new, full-color page the first three Fridays of every month.
The ongoing TONEDEAF! Side Story updates the remaining 1-2 Fridays of the month.

About the Artist

Meet the Artist 2026
Hi!! I'm Adora :)

Thank you so much for dropping by my website. TONEDEAF! has been my lifeblood for the past several years, and I'm so glad that I can finally put it all out there for others to enjoy.

When I'm not working on TONEDEAF!, I'm usually playing a video game, spending time with my friends, and attempting (often failing) to stay somewhat active (currently that's through basketball and table tennis).

I am EXTREMELY Anti-AI when it comes to art and make all art with ZERO AI use.

For business inquiries, please reach out to adorashark16@gmail.com or DM me on Bluesky.

Inspirations

As has often been said of art, nothing is truly original. This goes for TONEDEAF! as well! Please check out some of the other artists and works which have massively inspired and influenced the creation of TONEDEAF!

imageSequential Art by Phillip M Jackson (Occasionally NSFW)

If it weren't for Sequential Art, I'm not sure I'd be making comics right now. Don't get me wrong, I made dozens of silly comics as a kid well before I found Sequential Art in high school, but Sequential Art was the thing that made me want to want to make my own comic strip that I took seriously. It's no over-exaggeration to say that me finding Sequential Art was the first domino in a long line of dominos that resulted in this website existing at all. JollyJack's loveable cast of characters and humor very much shaped how I write my own comics, and I still check in near-daily to see if there's a new strip. I highly recommend Sequential Art if you're a fan of slice-of-life comedy with a bit of chaos (or maybe a lot of chaos depending on the story arc lol).

imageJUICEBOX by Rachel Weiss

If Sequential Art is what got me to make comics at all, JUICEBOX is what got me to make TONEDEAF! specifically. Honestly, it's only because of a series of chance encounters that I found JUICEBOX at all, and I couldn't be happier that things worked out the way they did, because finding it set me off on my own journey of wanting to create. JUICEBOX is a romcom about a vampire and a girl with way too much blood. It's endearing, funny, and has an absolutely stunning art style. Please check it out if you are remotely interested! It's a phenomenal and quick read, and I don't think TONEDEAF! would exist at all if it weren't for me stumbling upon it.

imageVentura City Drifters by Sonokido

It's furry girls playing basketball, what's not to love? Seriously though, Sonokido's art and storytelling is incredible, effortlessly weaving between intense action shots and genuinely emotional scenes throughout all of VCD. I am continuously impressed by new pages of VCD in basically every way, from character designs to backgrounds to EXPRESSIONS. The cast of VCD might be my favorite comic cast ever. Although I only found VCD somewhat recently (in the grand scheme of things, at least), it has steadfastly become one of my favorite comics ever, and I cannot recommend it enough. Chapter 20 remains one of the hypest chapters I've ever read in a comic.

imageWaste of Time by Mel Cormac

Waste of Time may start as a simple gag-a-day comic about two brothers and the girl next door, but shortly after I found Sequential Art as a teen, I found Waste of Time, and I fell in love with the characters and humor in a similar way. Waste of Time is self-described as an illustrated sitcom, and it really does feel just as warm, cozy, and fun as that description would make you think it is. Cormac's British humor (or humour, I suppose) is extremely witty, with numerous strips having some of my favorite jokes out of all comics I've ever read, and the characters constantly evolve over the run of the comic allowing them to easily weave their way into my heart. Check it out if you're looking for something classic but no less endearing.

imagePeaches & Cream / AskJam (Occasionally NSFW) by Miupix (NSFW)

Miu's lighthearted character writing and cute character designs have had a massive influence on how I've written characters, and anyone familiar with the silly escapades of Jam and friends will probably see the influence in some of my characters. If you're craving adorable art and feel-good vibes, I highly recommend the AskJam series of comic strips. Or, if you're in the mood for something a little heartier, the Peaches & Cream Winter Special from 2010 is a cute short story that remains something I re-read every winter.

I want to extend a massive thank you to all of the artists above, alongside countless others over the years, for making art and inspiring others to do the same. I wouldn't be who I am without any of the above works, and I am forever grateful that they exist.

Special Thanks

Alongside general inspirations, I wanted to thank a specific handful of people for very explicit help and support throughout the entire creation of TONEDEAF! For those who have social media links, please click their names to check out their own works!

imageKay (kaypxz)

Kay, you have been one of my best friends since we met!! What started as a chance encounter where I gave you some Project Diva PS3 save data (lol) has genuinely grown into a friendship that I am so, so happy to have. Your input on TONEDEAF! pages and art has been absolutely invaluable, and I appreciate all the times you've let me vent when life has gotten me down. I am a better artist and a better person because of you--thank you!

Kay makes gorgeous art largely surrounding Vocaloid characters! Please check her out on twitter for countless drawings of pretty girls (and the occasional handsome man lol)!

imageOpal (opalalala)

Opal, I'm so glad that we had our own chance encounter! Your enthusiasm for TONEDEAF! has been astronomically motivating to me, and I cannot thank you enough for the many times you have expressed your excitement, be it through words or the copious amounts of fan-art. I'm beyond grateful to have your friendship, and as always, I will continue to get hype as hell when you post a new animation >:3

Opal is an extremely talented artist and animator! Please check out her animations on YouTube to see some cute characters dancing to catchy music.

imageStar (starsauce)

Star, you have been one of the most encouraging and inspiring people I've known since we've met. Your ability to pick up new art styles and mediums with seemingly ease will never cease to amaze me, and you've been there for me through some serious creative lows. Thank you for pushing me to be a better artist and lending your ear literally every time I have needed it. It means the world to me!

God what can't Star do? Check out their Linktree, and then click through to literally anything to see either a funny animation, comic, or just some sick art!!

imageBerry (berrybnuy)

Berry, you have been a massive inspiration and support pillar to me, especially early on! I honestly believe that if it weren't for your early support of TONEDEAF! I'm not sure it would've had the staying power in my mind that it has, and every time I see you post a new piece I'm flooded with motivation all over again. Thank you so much for your friendship over the years, and I'm looking forward to many more years of drawing each others' cuties!!

Berry is the artist of some of the most GORGEOUS furry art I've ever seen; her rendering is genuinely stunning. Check out her stuff if you're even remotely interested in cute furry girls!!

imagePlum (theplumbago)

Plum, your friendship and motivation has been extremely meaningful to me over the past year!! By that I mean the direct motivation, yes, but also the indirect; your art and animations floor me every time I see them again, and god your expressions especially always push me to want to improve my own art. Thank you so much for all of the support for my band project, and I am looking forward to seeing more of yours in the future as well!!

Plum is an extremely gifted artist with a huge backlog of gorgeous art, both of Vocaloid characters and her own band OCs! Check her out on Instagram, or visit her YouTube for some beautiful animatics!

imageSarah Langston (cafe.cadet)

Sarah, I've known you the longest of everyone here, and I seriously can't thank you enough for supporting me since the day we met. 13 years or so ago you gave me some of the first encouragement to show my art to others, and it meant the world. I'm so glad that we reconnected, and I can say with confidence that several pages of TONEDEAF! are only as good as they are because of your massive help with page layouts/paneling. Thank you so much!!

Sarah is an extremely talented artist and comic maker herself. Check out her instagram for a look at some of her artwork, and keep an eye out for her own project, Orion!

Other Thanks

Countless other people have shown support of this project over the past few years, and I'd be remiss to not mention them all!

  • To my oldest brother: thank you for making this entire goddamn site. What you have made here is amazing and is easily the coolest webcomic site I've ever seen. Thank you so much for your countless hours of work on this thing and working through my endless specifications to make it the best it could be.
  • To my older-but-not-oldest brother: thank you for the continued support and push to continue my writing and art. Growing up I always wanted to impress you, so it means a lot whenever you've told me how much you've enjoyed my little comic. I hope you continue to enjoy it, and I am genuinely looking forward to reading more of your book!
  • To my Mom: thank you for being supportive of this project and reading it early on despite it being completely outside of your wheelhouse hahaha. It means a lot!!
  • To my Dad: thank you for supporting me in my artistic endeavors while I was growing up. My first drawing tablet may not have resulted in any great art, but I'm only where I am because of it.
  • To my partner: thank you for being with me through thick and thin, and for being a massive TONEDEAF! fan the whole time. I love you so much and am so happy to have you by my side through this launch.
  • To Austin: thank you for helping me write track two! I was very stumped at a couple parts and if it weren't for you, the story would genuinely just not be as good. I look forward to bouncing some ideas off of you in the future!
  • To all my other friends who have read TONEDEAF! early and provided feedback, gave encouragement, did fan-art, or even hated it but still spent their time on it, from the bottom of my heart: thank you. There's too many to list literally everyone, but I wanted to give a special shout-out to Ryan, Glory, Cassi, Dorian, and Lola for going above and beyond in your support of the project over the years. It means the world <3
